Submitting a paper to Conservation Evidence journal
ISSN 1758-2067 (online)
We welcome papers (or case studies) on all areas of species and habitat management such as habitat creation, habitat restoration, translocations, reintroductions, invasive species control, and education or integrated conservation development programmes, from anywhere around the world.
Criteria for publication
· all papers that include a conservation management intervention with appropriate monitoring to evaluate the consequences of the intervention will be considered for publication
· papers must be written by, or in partnership with, those who carried out the conservation work; we do not accept commentaries on work carried out by others
· papers ideally should be succinct, giving details of a single management action and its consequences
Preparation of the manuscript
Please submit the paper as a Word document (text aligned left; single line spacing; font Times New Roman, size 12) and include the following information:
1. Author(s): Provide the first name followed by initials and surname (e.g. John A. Smith & Jenny B. Jones) and postal addresses of all authors of the paper. Add an e-mail address for the corresponding author if possible.
2. Organisation(s): Full name of the organisation or organisations responsible for the work.
3. Summary: Please briefly summarise the main findings of the study.
4. Background: It may be useful to give a brief history of the reason for undertaking the management work. Explain the problem and the focus of your management.
5. Action: Briefly describe the study site. What did you do? Please give full details with exact dates (if possible) when the work and monitoring was undertaken. Please be as precise as possible so that others can copy your actions or adapt to fit their needs; it may be appropriate to describe the weather, even if typical it may still be useful to say so, or anything unusual that may have influenced the outcome of the management. By providing this information, if there are differences in responses across similar interventions reported in different studies, then it is possible to start considering why. A breakdown of the time taken would be useful (but not essential) to include.
6. Consequences: This is the results section that describes what happened. Please give full details, including any problems encountered, such as deleterious impacts on other species.
7. Acknowledgements: As appropriate.
8. References: As appropriate.
Tables and figures: We welcome tables and graphs showing results, and appropriate diagrams and photographs. Do not include photos solely of the study species, but do include those which illustrate the management work and/or its outcomes, or those relevant to the monitoring. Please add these after the text.
E-mailing the manuscript: E-mail to the editor at: d.showler@uea.ac.uk. Prior to e-mailing your submission, please ensure that the file size is 400KB or less.
Editorial process: Each paper will be peer-reviewed by two conservation biologists. Approval for acceptance will be made by the editors.
Submitting a summary
Summaries (400 words or less) of previously published papers or reports, especially from original authors, are welcome. Please follow the website format of Background, Action and Consequences; also include the citation for the original document and a weblink to the article where appropriate.
Summaries can be sent via the online submissions form or by e-mailing the document to the editor at: d.showler@uea.ac.uk
